What is ceramic coating and what does it do?
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer, typically silicon-dioxide (SiO₂) based. Applied by hand, panel by panel, it chemically bonds with your car's factory clear coat. Once cured, it forms a hard, glass-like layer that becomes the outer surface of the car: the coating takes the environmental abuse so the paint underneath doesn't. In practice it does four jobs. It blocks UV, so paint doesn't oxidise and fade. It resists chemical etching from bird droppings, bat droppings and bug splatter, a genuine problem through a Gold Coast summer. It makes the surface hydrophobic, so water beads off and road grime struggles to stick. And it adds a depth of gloss wax can't reach. Is ceramic coating worth it in Queensland?
For a car that lives on the Gold Coast: yes, more than almost anywhere in Australia. Queensland's UV index sits in the extreme band for much of the year, and unprotected clear coat responds by oxidising: blacks go grey, reds go chalky, and the faded bonnets you see around Southport did that damage one summer at a time. Park anywhere near the surf at Palm Beach, Currumbin, Miami or Mermaid Waters and salt air clings to every panel; commute the M1 from Robina or Varsity Lakes and the nose collects bug splatter and brake dust all week. How long does ceramic coating last?

We'll confirm which tier suits your car and budget at quote time. Three habits cut any coating's life short: brush-style automatic car washes, harsh alkaline wash chemicals, and not washing at all. Baked-on salt and droppings will eventually work through any protective layer. Stick to a pH-neutral hand wash and the tight water beading that shows the coating is alive will hold for years. Ceramic coating vs wax vs sealant: which protects best?
Wax, sealant and ceramic all protect paint. The difference is timescale and effort. A carnauba wax looks warm and glossy but starts breaking down in weeks, faster again in Queensland heat. A synthetic sealant is the mid-point: more durable than wax, still a reapply-every-few-months commitment, still limited against UV and etching. A professional ceramic coating chemically bonds to the clear coat rather than sitting on top of it, which is why it survives years of Gold Coast sun, salt air and weekly washes that would strip a wax in a month. What's included in a J-Bros ceramic coating package?
Coating is the last step of a J-Bros ceramic package, not the whole of it. The finish you see is made in the preparation. Every package runs the full sequence below, indoors at our workshop at Unit 41/314 Burleigh Connection Road, Burleigh Waters QLD 4220. We don't coat in driveways: the chemistry needs a dust-free, temperature-stable space out of direct Queensland sun to flash and bond correctly, which is why ceramic coating is one of our two workshop services, alongside window tinting.

Foam pre-wash and hand wash. Loose grit lifted and rinsed off before anything touches the paint.

Chemical decontamination and clay bar. Iron fallout and tar dissolved off, then a clay pass for bonded contamination a wash can't shift.

How do I maintain a ceramic coated car?
A coated car is the easiest car you'll ever wash, provided you wash it the right way. Use a pH-neutral shampoo and the two-bucket method with a clean microfibre mitt, and retire anything labelled wash-and-wax; the coating is the wax now, permanently. Never run it through a brush-style automatic wash. Spinning brushes carry the last hundred cars' grit and will slowly sand any finish. Wash in the shade or early in the morning: Gold Coast panels get hot enough by 10am to flash-dry suds into water spots. After a beach weekend at Palm Beach or Currumbin, a five-minute fresh-water rinse takes the salt film off before it can dwell. Do you install paint protection film (PPF)?
Yes, on request. Ceramic coating is our main service and what we recommend for most Gold Coast cars, but if you specifically want paint protection film, for stone-chip coverage on a track car or constant highway kilometres, we can arrange it on request. For most daily drivers a ceramic coating covers what needs protecting (UV, salt air, droppings, bug etching and wash-induced swirl marks) at a lower cost than film, so we'll give you the honest call at quote time on which is right for how you drive. Can you apply the ceramic coating at my home?
No. Ceramic coating is one of our two workshop services, alongside window tinting. Coatings need a controlled environment to bond properly: no dust settling on wet coating, no direct sun flashing it off too fast, and a stable temperature while it cures. That's what our workshop at Unit 41/314 Burleigh Connection Road, Burleigh Waters is set up for. How long is my car off the road for a ceramic coating?
Plan for one to two days. The coating itself goes on in hours; the time sits in the preparation (decontamination and machine paint correction) and in letting the coating cure before the car goes back outside. A smaller car with well-kept paint is usually a single-day job, while a large 4WD or paint needing multi-stage correction can run into a second day. Does a brand-new car still need paint correction before coating?
Usually yes, though only a lighter stage of it. New cars arrive with fine swirl marks and holograms from transport handling and dealership washes, and a ceramic coating locks in whatever sits underneath it, defects included. On most new vehicles a single-stage machine polish is enough before we coat, which is why coating a car in its first weeks is ideal: minimal correction, maximum result. Will a ceramic coating stop stone chips and scratches?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling. A ceramic coating is microns thick: it protects against chemical and environmental damage (UV fade, droppings, salt film, bug etching) and resists fine wash-induced swirl marks, but it won't absorb a stone flicked up on the M1, and it won't stop a key or a shopping trolley. It will keep the paint beneath it in as-corrected condition for years and make every wash faster and safer.
Can I take a coated car through an automatic car wash?
Skip the brush-style ones permanently. Spinning brushes carry grit from every car before yours and will grind fine scratches into any finish, coated or not. A touchless, high-pressure-only wash is acceptable when you're stuck, though harsh alkaline chemicals will slowly dull the coating's water behaviour if it becomes routine. The coating's real payoff is that a proper pH-neutral hand wash becomes quick: grime releases easily and drying is mostly chasing beads off the panel.
How soon after the coating can I drive and wash the car?
You can drive the car as soon as you collect it; we don't release a vehicle until the coating is stable enough for the road. The first wash is where discipline matters: the coating keeps hardening for days, so hold off washing for about a week and keep it out of heavy rain, away from sprinklers and from under trees for the first couple of days. Does the coating cover the wheels, glass and interior, or just the paint?
All of it, and it costs no extra. Every J-Bros ceramic package includes interior, glass and wheel protection alongside the paintwork. While the paint work is happening, the wheel faces are ceramic coated so brake dust wipes off instead of baking on, the glass gets a water-repellent coating that makes rain bead and run off the windscreen, and Gtechniq protection goes on the leather, plastics and trims inside. A full interior detail is part of the package too, so the car comes back protected inside and out rather than only on the panels you can see from the driveway.
